Wise move by United

FORMER Maritzburg United defender, Peter Petersen, believes the PSL outfit’s management made a wise and intelligent move by keeping the German-born coach, Enrst Middendorp.

The Cape Town-born, former Moroka Swallows and Bafana Bafana player says keeping Middendorp make sense.

“He is long now in South Africa and understands everything about local soccer, the culture, players and followers. To keep the head coach will also allow him to continue where he left off. He also proved to be the best for the club because he brought back stability and avoided relegation, and by extending his contract meant that United’s bosses are proud of him and really thinking big about the City of Choice and their fans,” said Petersen.

Last Tuesday the Team of Choice officially started training.

It has been reported the club is looking forward to laying a solid foundation for the new season under Middendorp, who has signed for a further two years with the club.

In another move, United have signed Andrea Fileccia from Free State Stars.

The striker revived his career and scored six goals in 11 PSL matches for Stars in the first half of the 2015/16 campaign before his season was disrupted by injury. It was under Middendorp at Stars, following the club’s changes to the technical team early last season, that Fileccia finally got to enjoy game time at the Bethlehem outfit, in what was his second campaign with the team.

Now, after recovering from injury, the player has negotiated his release from Ea Lla Koto, with sources confirming he will be turning out for PMB United.
