SINGER, actor, and disc jockey Lyle Chellan will be the proud recipient of the Artes Award this March after being recognised for his musical and theatrical talents.

The Artes Awards ‘19, hosted by Big M Productions, honours those who excel in the musical field across KwaZulu-Natal and will take place at the Sibaya iZulu Theatre on March 8 and March 9.

“To win this award means a lot to me. It shows me that, no matter what, anything is achievable as long as you pursue your passion,” said Chellan.

“I was born into a family of musicians and, as a child, I grew up listening to various types of music and I learnt to appreciate the true quality of music,” said the artist.

Chellan’s musical education saw him study music around the world, studying at the Trevor Thomas School of Music in Durban before heading to London where he majored in practical (piano) at Trinity College and musical theory with the Royal School of Music.

“I was shocked to be notified that I had been selected to be a recipient of this award.

“Being recognised as an entertainer for this award really took me by surprise,” said Chellan.

No stranger to the stage, Chellan has previously been featured in the Maritzburg Fever as he headlined various theatre plays such as Hook or By Crook and Who’s the Boss.
