Woman and family robbed at gun point

“IT was like a movie.”

This is how Keshnee Singh of Orient Heights described the horrific robbery that took place in her house last Tuesday.

Singh said she was busy laying the table for supper when the robbery occurred, with her 32-year old son and a visitor present.

She said the robbers entered the house through the front door.

“The security gate was closed but not locked. We did not have a problem with that because we knew that it was very difficult to open. My son was sitting near the door and when the robbers were opening the gate I saw his facial expression change.

“Three men entered with guns and said: ‘This is going to be quick and easy. Don’t be scared. Give us what we want and you won’t be hurt’.We just came from work and everything was on the table,” she said.

“They ordered my son and the visitor to lie down while one man was busy pushing me with a gun pointed at my head.

“He wanted me to go to the bedroom with him to get more jewellery. When I resisted he became angry.

“He pushed me and I fell on the couch and hurt my neck. They took everything that was in the lounge — four cellphones, cash, jewellery and the TV.”

Singh said the robbers then led them into one of the bedrooms and locked them in. “My son had one cellphone in his pocket that he managed to sneak. He then used that cellphone to call for help. When they locked us in, it was like a movie. It was so traumatic and scary,” she said.

Singh said that what happened to her and her family is something that she does not wish on anyone. “I can’t sleep or eat because I am afraid all the time.

Nobody must go through this. It is a horrific experience that you have to live with for the rest of your life.”

The robbers also took the car keys and drove off with the Mercedes Benz that was parked outside. The car was later recovered in Mkondeni on Wednesday.

However, documents belonging to Singh were missing from the vehicle.
