A 57-YEAR OLD woman is in a critical condition after a Ford Bantam bakkie crashed into her on Baijoo Road in Pietermaritzburg at about 4.40pm on Friday.

It is believed the woman was sitting next to the road selling goods when the driver of the bakkie lost control and crashed into her.

The patient was stabilised and placed on a ventilator before she was transported to Edendale Hospital.

It is believed her family and police witnessed the accident. The bakkie driver did not sustain any injuries.

Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
