Women groped and mugged on East Street

2018-02-21 06:00

APEACEFUL trip for a local pensioner to visit a family friend turned into a nightmare after she was attacked and robbed by a man in East Street on Saturday morning.

The pensioner, who wished to remain anonymous, described the ordeal as a painful one, saying that she would never go to East Street again after the incident.

“He must have been watching me and saw that I was old and alone, because once I jumped out of the car, he immediately ran towards me,” said the woman who is well over 60 years old.

She added that this happened in front of a well-known flat in the area.

Unable to hold back the tears, the woman recalled how the man rushed her and began to choke her with her own scarf while feeling her all over her body until finally pulling her pendant chain off her neck and darting away once he heard people shouting and running towards him.

She said that two elderly men gave chase on foot but eventually stopped when the man pulled out a knife when he was confronted.

“It was horrible because his hands were all over me and I went into a complete state of shock,” said the woman, who said that as soon as she got home she got into the shower because she felt dirty and violated.

Being a pensioner, the woman said that her quiet and peaceful life has been turned upside down since Saturday as she now is traumatised by the incident.

“I find it hard even now speaking about it and just pray I am able to move past this,” said the tearful pensioner.

When asked whether she has opened a case of theft and assault at her local police station, the elderly woman said that she does not have the time to go through the long process of the law but advised other people to steer clear of East Street, saying: “I will never go back there again”.

“He must have been watching me and saw that I was old and alone, because once I jumped out of the car, he immediately ran towards me,” said the woman who is well over 60 years old.
