GUGULESIZWE non-profit organisation is set to host a men’s conference under the theme: “You heal a man, you heal a nation #men do cry”. The conference will be held on Saturday, July 27 at the Voortrekker Museum from noon. The aim of this conference is to get men together and give them a platform to discuss the problems they face every day. Smangele Zindela, who is the founder of Gugulesizwe, said that after the imaginary men’s conference (that men were talking about in February to avoid Valentines Day), she realised that men really do need this platform. “When we were growing up we were told that men do not cry but that is not true. At this conference men will get a chance to engage with each other, man-to-man. They will also get a chance to give and receive advice from other men. “ We all know it is not easy for men to pour their hearts out and talk about their problems to women because they always want to appear strong because of the belief that men do not cry. I believe that it will be much easier for them as men to engage,” she said. The organisation was officially launched in 2010 in partnership with the Office of the Premier and the Department of Arts and Culture. Zindela said the organisation specialises in moral regeneration and social cohesion, adding that they do special programmes for different stakeholders that will help in bringing change within that organisation.
