Young model wins Miss Debutant title

2017-11-01 06:01

WHEN her name was called on stage, she was crying backstage because she didn’t make it to the top five, or so she thought, but her tears were wiped away after being crowned Miss Debutant at the Little Miss SA pageant in Pretoria on Saturday.

Anelisa Manzi (11), from Pelham was one of four girls to represent Pietermaritzburg at the pageant.

Speaking to Maritzburg Fever Anelisa said although she didn’t win the Little Miss SA crown she is happy to bring the Debutant title home.

“When I heard my name being called on stage, I froze and one of the contestants I was with backstage said ‘go, that is you’. I was shocked, but happy that I made my city proud at such a big pageant.

“Although this is the first time I have participated in a pageant I wasn’t afraid because it is not about how long you have been participating, it is about what you do when you get on stage.”

Anelisa’s mother Nokzola Mdunjane saidshe is proud of her daughter. “I am very happy, especially because she only started modelling classes in June. When we came back from Pretoria she had her sash on and everyone recognised and congratulated her.”

Mdunjane thanked Anelisa’s mentor, Clive Hadebe, who has always been there for her since she started her modelling journey.
