YOUNG Natalians are off to a good start by winning the pre-season Super League Tournament that was held in Tongaat this weekend. The tournament was sponsored by Hugos Panelbeaters from Pietermaritzburg and the owner of Hugos, Melvyn Odayan was at the game. The team put on an amazing performance showing some brilliant touches and a flurry of quick goals. The tournament was a team short and coach Greg Nair decided to split his team to cover the vacant spot. Renaldo Donnelly and Simphiwe Mgedezi were the captains. Both teams were in the same group and finished joint top with an unbeaten record and equal goals. This proved decisive as the crowd watched in anticipation when both Natalians teams contested the final.“Our goal was to win the tournament and have both my teams in the final was fantastic. This shows the depth we have in our squad. “Both teams drew 1-1 in the group stages thus proving that they were equally balanced,” Nair said. Natalians made a clean sweep of the awards with Joel Gray winning the Player of the Tournament award, Gareth Simes won Goalkeeper of the Tournament and Nair walked away with Coach of the Tournament. - Supplied.
