THE annual Youth Day Spin Fest is back again at Masons Mill, on June 16 from 11 am.

This year’s event is said to be bigger and better than ever as it features car spinners from outside the province of KwaZulu-Natal. The entrance fee is R30 for children and R70 for adults.

It also features girl and youth spinners, with the youngest spinner this year being 16 years old.

Wonder Mvelase, event organiser and spinner for Team 44, said the event will feature 40 spinners this year. Mvelase calls for people to come and enjoy their Youth Day, in style.

“This is something that people must see. It is pure magic and it is very safe, people must not be scared to come and watch it.If you love cars, and sport, this is the event that you cannot miss.We take this as a sport and we would like people come and support us. Most people have the mentality that people who spin their cars are gangsters and that is not true. Spinning a car is a skill and there are lot of people who have that talent, even young children. You can not tell me a girl who is 16 years old is a gangster because she spins cars. Spinning a car takes special skill and we want people to see it and appreciate it.

“We want this to be recognised as a sport that brings people together. What we love the most about it is that we are not doing it residential areas, we do it in an open space that was given to us by the ward councillor.

“We want people to stop spinning cars in the locations because it is dangerous, that is why we are giving them this platform,” he said.
