The Zamazulu Secondary School netball team, from Imbali Unit 2, has been selected to represent KwaZulu-Natal at the upcoming National Netball Tournament, being held in Boksburg from July 20 to 22.

The team represented the Umgungundlovu District at the provincial Netball Tournament, held in Ballito on June 2, where their performance earned them a place at the national event, however, due to lack of funds needed to cover travelling expenses and accommodation, the team may be unable to attend the upcoming event.

Zamazulu School principal Larmeck Xolani Ndlela told Echo reporters that the school was excited but also worried about how they were going to obtain the funds to attend the tournament.

“This is the first time that our team has qualified for the national tournament, we are very proud of them. They have worked really hard and their hard work has paid off. They put in a lot of effort, training until late. We hope that they can do well at the national tournament.

“We urge people to help us raise funds for our team so that they will be able to represent us. They will not be only be representing our school but Pietermaritzburg and the province as well. We need sponsors. The school does not have the money,” Ndlela said.

Coach Thobani Ndlovu said this is a big achievement for the team and they are very excited to be representing the whole province.

“It was very tough at the provincial tournament, I am not going to lie, but the team managed to win. They played seven games and they performed well in all.

I am very proud of them, they have shown that they have potential. There were schools who have all the facilities to train for the sport but we still became the best school,” hesaid.

Donations can be made to the school bank account:
