THE 100th parkrun will take place on Saturday, July 18.

This fun, non-commercial, free, feel-good, community-based event, happens every Saturday at 8am at Shark Rock pier, Hobie Beach.

Parkrun is a free, weekly, 5km, timed run that is open to all ages and abilities. PE Hobie Beach Parkrun started on August 10, 2013, and since then 5 846 different runners, including participants from 122 athletics clubs, have completed 32 482 runs covering a total distance of 162 410km.

According to event director Tamarin Ellis, the 100th parkrun will be celebrated by having a topsy-turvy day, and organisers are encouraging parkrunners to dress upside-down, back to front and inside out.

“We will be running our route in reverse and will also be having loads of lucky draw prizes including a R500 Brian Bands voucher as well as Brian Bands discount vouchers for the parkrunners,” Ellis explained.

Another highlight for the PE Hobie Beach parkrun will be its second birthday on August 8, which will also feature a day of celebrations.

“We will be having a fun day encouraging parkrunners to bring long-life milk for the Malabar Home for the Aged and toys for the EP Children’s Home. We will also be inviting the children from the EP Children’s Home to join us again this year.

“We will be announcing the winners of the parkrun annual points competition and there will also be loads of lucky draw prizes,” Ellis said.
