TWENTY-SIX schools from across Nelson Mandela Bay will compete for top honours at the 2015 Nelson Mandela Bay Schools Marching Drill Competition to be held on August 10 at the Adcock Stadium, Korsten.

The competition is presented by Go Big Community Development in association with the Department of Education PE, SAPS Motherwell and Mount Road Clusters and SANDF Humewood.

“The main aim of Project school Marching Drill Inspiration is to instil discipline and moral ethics back into schools, to promote respect and wearing of school uniform and to prevent youth crime and drug abuse in schools and communities by developing capable, mature and responsible youths,” Addie Jappie, event organiser, said.

“Most of the schools have been trained by either SAPS and or SANDF drill instructors at their schools since March this year and will be coaching their respective school teams during the competition,” Jappie added.

The event will commence with the opening ceremony at 9am. Schools vying for top honours in the Junior section are Melisizwe, Bayview and Nxanelwimfundo and in the Senior section will be Woolhope, Motherwell, Bertram, Sanctor, Ncedo and Mfesane high schools. – REPORTER
