THIRTY Nelson Mandela Bay Modern Pentathlon Association biathletes will be part of the Eastern Cape team of 89 biathletes in the SA Championships at the Joan Harrison swimming pool in East London on June 27.

The Eastern Cape is the hosting province, so it could enter a much bigger team than other provinces, with athletes ranging from u/10 to masters level in this development sport of the modern pentathlon.

The championships also serve as trials to select a South African team to compete at the UIPM Biathle World Championships in Batumi, Georgia, on September 18.

The Nelson Mandela Bay team won nine gold, two silver and three bronze medals in the EC Biathle Champs at Stirling Primary School in East London on May 24.

This was the biggest NMB biathle contingent in the Eastern Cape team for a national championship in a long time, NMB biathle team manager Yolanda De Lange said.

Peter Lynch, chairman of the NMB Modern Pentathlon Association, said, “Buffalo City always has a strong representation in Team EC at biathle nationals, while Nelson Mandela Bay is the strongest at the modern pentathlon and tetrathlon championships. Together they are a force to be reckoned with nationally.” – REPORTER
