Caltex fuels the fun at Urban Run

2015-09-09 06:00

CALTEX Eastern Cape are one of the latest sponsors to get behind the region’s premier charity run with support for the entertainment programme of the Nelson Mandela Bay Urban Run which takes place on the Donkin Reserve at the end of the month.

Hosted by the Mandela Bay Development Agency (MBDA), the Urban Run is a weekend celebration of urban renewal in our city which sees a fun kids urban obstacle run of approximately 2.5km taking place on Saturday, September 26, and an adult urban obstacle run of approximately 8km on the Sunday morning.

Now in its fifth year, the Urban Run athletes have already contributed over R675 000 to local charities with this year’s benefactors being the Reach for a Dream Foundation (kids run) and Cleary Estate Cheshire Home (adults).

The format of the Urban Run, which is unique in South Africa, sees all entrants required to raise a minimum of R100 for the charities and encouraged to dress up for the run.

The Saturday programme will kick off with an outdoor aerobics class hosted by Metrogym and includes performances by local band Dry Water and exhibitions by Redbull extreme rider Brian Capper.

Saturday afternoon features SA’s first ever Inner City Enduro which starts at 3pm from Fort Frederick and is guaranteed to be a great spectacle. All riders and bikes will be visible at the Donkin Reserve before the event.

Maoz the Clown will entertain the kids before the 12pm start to their Urban Run with R1 000 cash up for grabs for the best dressed and a top of the range bicycle from Cyclopro, the feature prize for the child who raises the most amount of money for Reach for a Dream.

Centrestage’s Gino Fabbri will be the entertainment for Sunday which starts at 7.45am with a warm up session before the Best Dressed competition.

The Urban Run will start in 4 batches from 9am on the Sunday morning as participants set to tackle the city for charity with over 15 exciting obstacles and 4 water tables along the route which will start and finish on the Donkin Reserve.

Online entries and further information available on with manual entries possible at Toby’s Motors Caltex (8th Ave, Walmer) and Brian Bands.

A student special promotion is scheduled to take place at NMMU on Monday 14th and Tuesday 15th
