THE Summerstrand Surf Lifesaving Club invites every boy and girl between the ages of 4 and 14 to their Open Day on Sunday, October 11, from 11am to 1pm, to embark on their journey toward becoming a qualified Life Saver.

Nippers is the start of the journey to becoming a Qualified Life Saver.

The Summerstrand Surf Lifesaving Club has been in existence since 1956 and they see Nippers as a lifestyle and encourage full family involvement.

Nippers are not only taught various lifesaving skills but also to respect the sea at all times and how to make the most of the surf and the beach, in a manner that is safe and fun.

The Open Day will serve as an informal introduction to Nippers at Summerstrand Surf Life Saving Club and is open to all new faces as well as existing Nippers.

The youngsters will be split into their individual age groups, and specialists on the beach will show them the different disciplines that they will learn as a Nipper. The Nippers will also be given an opportunity to try these skills for themselves.

The training involved towards becoming a Nipper includes development in surf swim, body board, malibu board and running skills. All these skills are done in a controlled and fun environment. The event will take place at Summerstrand Surf Lifesaving Club on Pollock Beach. All relevant registration forms and other information regarding the season will be available on the day
