Exciting junior surfing at JBay Winterfest

2015-06-10 06:00

THE entries are open for the first contest in the 2015 Billabong Junior Series presented by BOS, and surfers from across the globe have started entering. For this event the surfers are allowed to enter two divisions, with most of them taking advantage of this opportunity.

This Billabong Junior Series presented by BOS event forms part of the JBay Winterfest - www.jbaywinterfest.com - has a waiting period from July 13-17.

Contest organisers need only three days to run the event to completion, and with the waiting period at the same time as the World Surf League’s JBay Open Championship Tour event, there will undoubtedly be good waves for the tournament.

A number of international entries are in the mix this year, with a crew of overseas Billabong Junior surfers entered into the contest-Ethan Ewing (Australia), Griffin Colapinto (USA), Seth Moniz (Hawai), Shaun Manners (Australia), Eithan Osborne (USA), and Liam O’Brien from Australia. These surfers are all in South Africa for a Billabong Bloodlines project, and have all entered into the event.

Entries fill up for Night Relay

With just two weeks to the start of the 3-part Town Lodge Business Night Relay, entries are starting to fill-up as local companies secure their team place for the 5-person running teams and 3-person walking teams for this Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium hosted event.

The Town Lodge Business Night Relay is a fun corporate team building event which sees teams competing in the relay style event with each team member having to complete a 3.5km lap around the Stadium precinct. This year’s route has been made more exciting and more competitive by being shortened and being kept within the grounds of the picturesque stadium.

With two popular running events coming up for local companies to boost staff morale and team spirit, it’s time to start getting your colleagues and friends fired up and out their training. These two events are the Town Lodge Business Night Relay and the Nelson Mandela Bay Train Race.

Established in 2011 with the assistance of the Mandela Bay Development Agency (MBDA), the Business Night Relay has grown into a popular monthly winter team builder attracting over 100 corporate and social teams. Entries are just R500 for the running teams and R300 for the walking teams and can be made online (www.BusinessNightRelay.co.za).

First race of the Series takes place on Thursday, June 25, and will be followed up with another race in July and August. Medals and floating trophies are up for grabs in the Men’s, Ladies’ and Mixed running category, as well as the winning walking team. Each race night ends with the popular lucky draw prize giving which always features great prizes which include a R500 Caltex fuel voucher and R1 000 cash
