Food for Life needs assistance to feed needy

2015-10-14 06:00

WITH support from the Hare Krishna devotees, the Indian community of Malabar and other supporters, Prabhu and his team prepare and distribute 500 warm, healthy meals to the hungry community covering Greenbushes, Booysen Park, Missionvale, Gelvandale, Helenvale, New Brighton, KwaZakhele and Motherwell most afternoons.

“Once the large white bakkie rolls into the neighbourhood, tiny voices resonate ‘Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna’ as the children run home to grab their bowls and line up behind three very large serving pots filled with a healthy kitchari of fresh vegetables, sugar beans and rice,” said Food for Life’s Nicky van Lavieren.

“The Food For Life programme plays an important role by not only supplying warm meals to much needed stomachs, but by filling their hearts with goodness too.”

Currently the programme is in urgent need of rice, vegetables and sugarbeans and are reaching out to the public for support. Owing to the increasing amount of hungry people, their stock gets depleted very quickly.

“Our success would not be possible without the help of our contributors these past ten years and we take this opportunity to thank you all sincerely,” Van Lavieren said.
