Infrastructure and Engineering directorate commit to appointing staff in Despatch

2015-07-29 12:27

A 3-year plan to fill critical vacancies with ten artisan positions already advertised according to the Infrastructure and Engineering directorate was promised to curb the ongoing problems at Despatch.

This comes after DA councillor Francois Greyling demanded to know why his area has battled with water supply and water loss for over four years.

Greyling in his motion to council said the situation was largely due to the municipality’s inability and lack of will to fill critical vacancies in the plumbing directorate who can undergo preventative maintenance and ensure faster repair turnaround times. “In addition, to add insult to injury, the automatic inlet regulators that should regulate the water flow into the reservoir and shut off when it is full are non-existent and have to be done manually for which the lack of staff posts an additional handicap. The lack of competent trained staff and sufficient labour over burdens our current incumbents which also results in injuries as well as low morale.”

The Infrastructure and Engineering directorate however promised that at least one of the Artisan positions advertised would be identified for Despatch with the filling of Superintendent positions also freeing existing artisans who are in acting positions. – REPORTER
