A LOCAL doctor based at the Westering Medicross Centre in Port Elizabeth, Dr Phillip B de Vos, is raffling one of his own paintings, to raise funds for SOS Children’s Village Port Elizabeth.

The framed painting is oil on canvas and it is of a young woman day dreaming, while leading her muscular stallion. Instead of only asking for donations, De Vos said, “I wanted to offer people an opportunity to also win something. Who can resist such an opportunity?”

The artwork is displayed at the reception desk of the Westering Medicross. Tickets are sold at R20 each and the final draw will take place on December 9, 2015. Members of the public are encouraged to support this fundraiser, by buying a ticket or making a donation to SOS Children’s Village Port Elizabeth.

“The sky is the limit and I have not set a final target for the funds I hope to raise; any amount will be sincerely appreciated as it will go towards providing a special Christmas for the children of SOS Children’s Village Port Elizabeth,” De Vos said.

“We may not have the time to give to those in need, but by making a donation and efforts such as these, we can help organisations who can. That is why I have decided to show my support for SOS Children’s Village Port Elizabeth, who dedicate all their efforts and resources towards providing quality and loving care for orphaned and vulnerable children.”

De Vos’s support is sincerely appreciated, said Mandy Spies, fundraiser - SOS Children’s Villages South Africa

“We are overjoyed at the special contribution Dr de Vos wishes to make, and we applaud his efforts towards helping our children. Dr De Vos has been a committed donor of SOS Children’s Village Port Elizabeth, since 2008. Besides his regular donations, he is always willing to assist us with advice on how to help a sick child. He is a generous, humble person, and others can learn from his example,” said Spies.
