With spring fast approaching, water polo star, Hannah Werth, 16, will have even more reason to stay in the pool.

The teen will however, miss the start of the season as she will be in Prague, Czechoslovakia.

Hannah, who is a grade 11 learner at Pearson High School, has been playing water polo since she has been in grade eight. Since then she has gone on to represent her school, province and country in the aquatic sport.

She is presently training for the upcoming eight nations meet, which will be against countries like Czechoslovakia, Switzerland and Wales.

Having a pool and net at her home in Walmer have allowed Hannah to get in a lot of training time at home, which she is grateful for, but complains jokingly about the icy temperature.

She trains at least two hours a day. “When I have tournaments I have to train in the morning and evening.” Much as she has to be proud of, Hannah is only concentrating on the future, as the prospects of playing in Prague have her giddy with excitement.

“I was chosen to go to the trials for Prague when I played in a tournament against Zimbabwe,” Hannah said, beaming. In this tournament, the South African Water Polo team won all their matches against Zimbabwe. Hannah and the South African Water Polo team will be departing for Prague on the 2nd of September
