Jordaan said the project would also help the metro in dealing with crime. “All high crime spots must have surveillance cameras with light and connectivity, so that people will be able to take a photo and send it to the 10111 call centre.

Jordaan also talked about his plans for better cooperation between the metro’s safety and security department and the SA Police’s 10111 centre to rid the metro of crime as part of the Take Back Our City campaign (read full story on page 2).

“The first thing we need to fight crime is accurate and fast information. If the cameras and Wi-Fi are in place, the information flows to the centre,” Jordaan said.

. News 24 reports the City of Tshwane launched in November 2013 the first phase of its public Wi-Fi offering through free internet zones (wi-fi hotspots) as part of the plan to blanket the city in free wireless data access as part of Project Isizwe.

The project is a partnership between the municipality and Project Isizwe and provides fully managed free internet zones to residents.

The project is part of the City of Tshwane’s Vision 2055 programme meant to focus the metro on first class service delivery for residents by 2055
