Metro to compensate taxi operators affected by IPTS pilot phase

The metro has resolved that 54 taxi operators who were directly affected by the IPTS pilot phase be compensated over R1 million.

The report states that 5 taxi owners will each receive R97 000 on condition that they comply with the police vehicle clearance certificate. An additional R1.1 million will also be paid to the 98 IPTS ambassadors who were employed during the pilot phase and R3.6 million to taxi operators who were partially affected by the IPTS.

Metro awards R12 million tender for Lorraine stormwater

The municipality has approved a tender for the Lorraine bulk stormwater phase 2 construction which will cost R12 million in the 2015/16 financial year.

This would alleviate flooding in the Lorraine neighbourhood north of the existing narrow gauge railway line.

City Boss Mpilo Mbambisa in his report said the flooding had become more problematic in recent years due to development south of the railway line.

Concrete stormwater pipelines will now be installed in the Macon Road reserve. This will intercept and divert the runoff stormwater within the area with the discharge point at existing bulk stormwater facilities at the Circular Drive and Carrington Road intersection.

The tender has been awarded to TARSIL Investments.
