National Lotteries Commission calls on NGOs to apply for funding

2015-07-15 06:00

THE National Lotteries Commission (NLC) is calling on non-profit organisations, non-government organisations, public benefit trusts, schools and communities to apply for funding.

“This call is the second of three annual calls that will be made to the public to apply for funding in the current financial year,” NLC Commissioner Charlotte Mampane said.

Mampane said the NLC had set aside funds in line with stated sector allocations as prescribed by the National Lotteries Act.

While the NLC will in future implement proactive funding to qualifying beneficiaries, Mampane said the NLC would continue to disburse funds primarily through open calls to the public, such as this one.

“We are anticipating a positive response and we therefore urge organisations to submit their applications as early as possible,” she said. “However, we would like to stress that beneficiaries must still comply with set criteria in order to be considered for funding.”

Applications officially commenced on July 12 for registered medium-sized organisations wishing to secure funding in excess of R500 000, while applications for smaller organisations will open on October 1. Closing dates for the current call for funding are September 3 and November 12 respectively.
