THE German Club in Port Elizabeth is proud to announce that they were recently nominated by National Geographic for hosting the 10th most popular Oktoberfest outside Germany.

The Oktoberfest, which will be taking place this weekend, will this year again have two special Oktoberfest craft beers on tap brewed specially for the Oktoberfest by South African Breweries’ new Craft Beer plant in Cape Town.

They have also partnered with Blunden Transport who are doing three different routes in Port Elizabeth to and from the Oktoberfest in Lorraine as part of their Drink and Don’t Drive campaign. Their Maritime Motors corporate evening on October 22 was sold out within two weeks of releasing the date. Those who would like to participate in this event next year must make sure to give the club a call early November 2015.

Friday, October 23 and Saturday, October 24

No under 18s are allowed on these nights.

These two nights are open nights and bookings may not be made. Tickets may be pre-purchased through Computicket for R100. Tickets are available at the gate on the night and will cost R120 per night. Gates open at 6pm and close at 11pm on Friday night and 3pm and 11pm on Saturday night. Closing times for the fest itself are 12pm on both days. Patrons must please note that there are no pass outs this year.

The Oktoberfest have at 50 metres the longest bar at any such event in South Africa.

The Oompah band plays a variety of music during the evening. There are food stalls in the courtyard with the famous ludwigsburger, cheesegrillers, chicken kebabs, deboned kassler and other eats for sale. There is also a disco and a bar in the hall.

The hugely popular Miss Oktoberfest finals will take place on Saturday, October 24, from 3:30pm and there are great cash and jewellery prizes to be won, as well as an Extreme Models grooming and modelling voucher. Entry forms are available from Extreme Models at info@extrememodels.co.za and the German Club.

The Saturday semi-final of the Rugby World Cup 2015 will be broadcast live from 4:30pm on big screens in the tent.

Sunday, October 25---früschoppen

Sunday is family day and bookings are essential as they only cater for up to 1 000 people. The entrance fee is R80 for non-members and kids under 16 enter free. Tickets are available from Computicket or at the gate.

The Oompah band performs from 12pm until 4pm. Lunch is served from 12:30pm until 2:30pm. There is a choice of four different meals. As always draught beer and schnapps will available.

There is a kiddies corner with a jumping castle, a clown who will do shows and fold balloons into animal shapes and trained staff from one of the local nursery schools to look after the very young ones.

The second semi-final of the Rugby World Cup starts at 6pm and will be broadcast with the build-up from 5pm on big screens in the tent. Entrance for those who would just like to watch the rugby is R60 from 4pm onwards. Light meals will be available during the rugby
