Stars come out in Bay for African Oscars

This privately funded organisation not only has its annual international awards, but has also to date funded more than 5 000 young Africans through the academy, giving them the means and opportunities to soar at careers in the film industry.

Recent events have shown that the stature of South African films is starting to receive a tremendous amount of global recognition.

Among the nominations is a South African production, “iNumber Number”, which is an action feature starring Class Act winner, Sdumo Mtshali.

“iNumber Number” was selected for the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival.

The film has been nominated in many categories at this year’s AMMA’s including and among others, AMAA 2015 Award for Achievement in Visual Effect, Ousmane Sembene AMAA 2015 Award for Best Film in an African Language, AMAA 2015 Award for Achievement in Production Design, AMAA 2015 Achievement in Costume Design and AMAA 2015 Award for Achievement in Make-Up.

“iNumber Number’s” director, Donovan Marsh, is an Award-winning South African director, writer and editor who has worked in the local film industry since 1992.

He wrote and directed the feature films “Dollars” and “White Pipes”, “Spud” and the recently released “Spud 2: The Madness Continues”. Marsh’s new film,

For television he has directed dramas (“Hard Copy”, “Tsha Tsha” and “The Good Fight”), live multicam productions (“Who Wants to be a Millionaire”, “Gladiators”) and was the creator of the reality show, “Class Act”, as well as the mobile series, “Seduction 101”.
