JORDAN Zeelie (20), a BCom. student in Financial Planning at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) and former SA canoeist was named Die Burger/Boardwalk Mr PE 2015 on Saturday, June 13.

Damian Benjamin and Waldo Weyers took second and third places respectively.

The crowning took place at a glittering gala event attended by more than 600 guests at the Boardwalk Conference Centre.

Zeelie is the youngest Mr PE ever in the 14 years of the competition.

This former pupil of Grey High School entered the competition inspired by the little girl that his parents, Jacqui and Johannes Zeelie, is in the process of adopting. She has been living for the past two years, since the age of 7 months, with the Zeelie family in their Walmer home.

Jordan also has an older brother Calvin (22) and younger sister, Amber (17).

“My baby sister was cared for by the Ithemba Lam baby home in Forest Hill before she came to live with us. She brings so much joy to our home and I wanted to do something to give back some of that joy.”

Jordan will be doing fundraising and awareness campaigns for Ithemba Lam as his charity of choice, as well as for the two beneficiaries of the competition, the ACVV’s Khayalethu Youth Centre and the NSRI.

Jordan, who in 2011 and 2012 represented South Africa at the World Canoeing Champs, already showed as a finalist how he could use his skills for a good cause. He raised over R30 000 in a 24-hour continuous canoe paddle challenge on the North End Lake.

One of the highlights of the competition for him was meeting and interacting with the 11 other finalists.

“I learnt something from each and every one of them. We have formed a good network to continue with the charity work we started. I also gained so many life skills during the run-up to the gala evening - such as public speaking and arranging a charity event,” said Jordan.

Apart from entering for Mr PE, he had only done one modelling stint before.

In 2013 he won NMMU’s Model Hunt competition which he entered for fun with some friends.

His girlfriend, Gabriella Rodrigues (19), is also an NMMU student.

Heinz, of Heinz in Style, organiser of the competition, said Jordan is a worthy winner who stood out right from the start of the competition.

According to him, Jordan will bring a new dynamic and energy to the competition.

“He is young with a lot of positive energy and no pretences,” said Heinz.

Jordan will need all this energy with three events booked already for his first week as Mr PE – an event at the Sun Restaurant at the Boardwalk yesterday, the opening of Ster-Kinekor’s new cinema complex in the Baywest Shopping Centre tonight and an awards evening for the Business Women’s Association tomorrow evening.
