WALMER Park announced the winners of their 27th edition of the Annual Walmer Park Baby of the Year competition at a fun-filled prize giving event held at the Walmer Park Shopping Centre last Saturday.

This popular annual event began five weeks ago with baby’s photos taken in the Edgar’s Court of Walmer Park Shopping Centre at the in-centre photographic studio run by professional photographer, Heather Stevens from Wild Heart Photography.

This year’s judges included, Tessa Matthew and Deveda Bloem representing Walmer Park Shopping Centre, Heather Stevens from Wild Heart Photography, Adri van der Walt representing Media 24, the media partner of the Baby of the Year competition under the PE Express banner and Lauren Rudolf from Dischem Walmer Park.

The judges had the extremely challenging task of selecting the top 40 finalists from all the photographic entries received.

On Wednesday, October 3, the judges had the opportunity to meet all the cuties in a baby interview. At this judging session, the judge’s main criteria was to look for a baby that was healthy, alert and happy.

As a “feel good” element to the competition, every year, R5 from each entry fee received is collected and donated to a babies or children’s organisation dealing specifically with abused or abandoned children. This year the beneficiary was Isithembiso Babies home. The home is a temporary place of safety for babies, Richard Ahlfedt, representing Isithembiso was present to receive the cheque to the sum of R1 980 which was raised during the competition.

The winners and runners up were:

  • Category 0-6 months: First place Harlow Fox Appel; first runner up, Isaiah Felix and second runner up Marco Shaw.
