Basketball players, officials honoured

THE Nelson Mandela Bay Basketball Association (NMBBA) honoured outstanding players and officials for their excellent performance and contribution during the 2018 season at its annual awards presentation at the Raymond Mhlaba Indoor Sports Centre in Motherwell NU 4 B on Saturday evening.

Nelson Mandela Bay Sports Confederation official, Winty Shakes Ngcukana, commended the basketball executive committee for running their programmes excellently.

“We at the sports confederation have no problems with the NMBBA structure.

“This association is run by intelligent, hardworking individuals. Their house is in order and they have the potential to go for greater strides. We are happy with how it is run,” said Ngcukana.

Rhodes University won the Metro Women’s Super League trophy, while PE Comets’ women’s team were the runners-up.

PE Comets’ men scooped the first prize, while Spartans finished second. Spartans won the Second Division League title.

The winning teams went home with trophies and gold medals, while the runners-up settled for silver medals.

In the individual awards category, the most valuables players and all stars received trophies for outstanding performances.

The table officials who received gold medals were Zanele Ncipha, Unathi Kwekwani and Phelokazi Peter.

The referees who also received gold medals were Dinilesizwe Dulwana, Phumzile Panda, Thembela Mehana, Lwando Cakwebe, Sipho Matshitshi and Siyanda Jemsana.
