Bay watercolour artist to exhibit at international festival

2019-09-04 06:01

A NELSON Mandela Bay-based watercolour artist is one of 150 artists, from 26 countries, who have been selected to exhibit their work at the International Watercolour Society South Africa’s first ever International Watermedia Festival.

Sheree Young is one of two East Cape administrators for International Watercolour Society South Africa (IWSSA), and a committee member of East Cape Watercolour Association (ECWA).

She paints many different themes, choosing not to restrict herself, as she feels that one always learns, especially when one is challenged to try new ideas, techniques and themes.

Young has been published in IWS Diary by IWS Hungary and she was a finalist in IWS Poland’s ‘Step by Step’ competition.

The International Watermedia Festival, ‘Colours of the Rainbow Nation’, is open to the public at Art Curator Gallery in Somerset West from September 4 to 16.

The public will be able to view the exhibition online, purchase paintings online and vote towards the online Cyber Award by liking their favourite paintings in the IWSSA 1st International Watermedia Festival – September 2019 group on the IWSSA Facebook page from today, September 4.

  • The East Cape Watercolour Association is currently hosting its annual exhibition until September 16 at Art on Main in the Moffett on Main Lifestyle Centre.

Free watercolour demonstrations by Eliria Haigh, Ally Shone and Sheree Young will take place on Friday, September 7, from 09:30 to 12:00.

Haigh has been a member of ECWA for many years and is their librarian and a committee member, while Shone, one of the few watercolour teachers in PE, is renowned for her portrayal of white roses and use of vibrant, transparent watercolours.

Members of the public are welcome to try their hand at watercolours at this session.

Online viewing, purchasing and voting for the Cyber Award can be done by liking paintings on the East Cape Watercolour Association’s Facebook page.

Art on Main is open Monday to Thursday from 09:00 to 17:30, Saturdays from 09:00 to 17:00 and Sundays from 09:00 to 14:00. For more info contact 041 367 1863. - REPORTER
