BD High, George Academy, Brebner High win VP Soccer Challenge

VICTORIA Park (VP) High School’s Soccer Challenge was a resounding success after 40 school teams took part in the tournament that was played at Dave Weinronk Sports Complex in Walmer from March 18 to 20.

The tournament that was played by boys’ u/16, girls’ u/19 and boys’ u/19 started in a round robin format and headed into a knockout stage.

Before the finals started, ten jugglers demonstrated their football skills to keep the supporters entertained.

The juggler competition was won by St Andrews College learner, Jonathan Shamuwana, and the runner-up was VP learner, Liam Bruwer.

The tournament sponsor, African Bank Greenacres Branch, presented the ten boys with some fantastic prizes.

In the girls’ finals, Bethelsdorp High School (BD High) stunned Vulumzi High School after they conquered them 1-0.

Ferouza Jones scored BD High School’s goal early in the first half.

In the boys’ u/16 finals, George Soccer Academy School managed to beat Robinvale High School 1-0 in the first half of the extra time. Aphiwe Bhaliti scored George Academy’s goal.

Brebner High School, located in Bloemfontein, edged out Lawson Brown High School 1-0 after Kutloana Ntoleng sent a salvo that found the back of the net in the second half.

The tournament organiser, Marlon Louis, thanked the sponsors Coca Cola and African Bank for making the tournament a resounding success. Louis also thanked the schools that participated in the soccer challenge.

Fair play award: Sanctor High School

Bowl award: Hudson Park High School

Plate award: Brebner High School

Third place: VP High School

Runners-up: Vulumzi High School

Boys’ u/16 section

Fair play award: St Andrews College

Bowl: Alexander Road High School

Plate award: Sanctor High School

Third place: VP High School

Runners-up: Robinvale High School
