2019-06-12 06:02

THIS World Oceans Day, which took place on June 8, Pick n Pay joined Sustainable Seas Trust (SST) Beach Clean-Up in Port Elizabeth, by providing its new R5 reusable bag – made from recycled green plastic bottles – and muffins to all volunteers.

Other sponsors included SANCCOB, WESSA, Nelson Mandela Bay, the Department of Water and Sanitation, Isuzu, Something Good Roadhouse, Coca-Cola Beverages and Summerstrand Surf Lifesaving Club.

The event saw over 200 volunteers participate. A total of 160kg of recyclable waste and 420kg of general waste was collected on the day. Isuzu processed all the waste on the day.

Kylie Harris, SST event organiser and coordinator, said, “The public’s positive response to the World Oceans Day beach clean-up was absolutely overwhelming.

It was so wonderful to see the community and different partners coming together for a good cause and I hope that it won’t be the last.”

Pick n Pay also sponsored the Nature Valley Trust Beach Club in Plettenberg Bay on Saturday for World Oceans Day.
