Cancer survivor to host fund-raising event

2016-04-13 06:00

BAY cancer survivor Petro Nortje received a successful bone marrow transplant in Pretoria in October 2014, and is aiming to show her gratitude to the people who have helped her though her ordeal.

“I would want to give something back to the people that are keeping me alive everyday by helping them help others,” Nortje said.

She is currently planning a fundraising event on May 14 at the Ukuphupha Conference and Wedding Centre in Kragga Kamma.

The event will be in the form of a meet and greet with celebrity sportsmen and women and the auctioning of memorabilia from sports celebrities.

All proceeds generated by means of donations, auctions and tickets will go directly to the Igazi Foundation, which is dedicated to improving existing haematological services and facilities for cancer sufferers.

Some of the memorabilia available for auction include a Sharks team signed jersey, Bulls team signed jersey, Stormers team signed jersey, Southern Kings team signed jersey, signed rugby jersey by Francois Pienaar and John Smit, and a signed rugby jersey by Naas Botha and Darius Botha.

Guest speakers for the event include former Springbok rugby player Darius Botha, who is a cancer patient himself, Hannes Marais, Anton Barnard and Eben Olivier.

Tickets are available at R400 per person and can be purchased at The Footballer Sport Shop or Kragga Kamma Spar.
