Ian von Memerty, his wife and two children, as well as the family’s two grannies, will be spending time during Christmas with his sister in Plettenberg Bay.

“As usual there will be more than enough to eat,” he said laughingly. “But the best part will be the turkey that we broil braai on the fire!”

“It’s the juiciest tastiest turkey ever!”

As for a Christmas wish to himself and his family he replied: “My Christmas wish would be a whole year’s expenses fully paid up!”

But on a more serious note he added: “To the world I wish that all can look past divisions like race and religion and see one another united as human beings.” – WILLEMIEN GREEN

Von Memerty’s delicious turkey:

1 big turkey

Olive oil

Spices of your choice

Fruit juice

1 or two beers

1 Deep roasting pot

Put some olive oil in the pot. Mix all the spices, juice and beer together.

Baste the turkey regularly with this mixture while turning it at least every 30 minutes.

Broil braai the turkey in the pot over the coals until it’s done.
