THE Cathedral of St Mary the Virgin, located in Central, Port Elizabeth, is looking for new members to join their choir.

The Cathedral, which celebrated its 191st birthday on September 11, recently appointed a new choir director, Akhona Nkumanda, and is looking to add some new vocal talent to the choir.

Nkumanda is a music teacher at Westering High School and the musical genius behind the revival of the Ipi Tombi productionthat took place at the Savoy Theatre in August.

“He has brought a new energy and enthusiasm to our choir performances,” said Patty Bosman, a member of St Mary’s.

The Cathedral Choir is affiliated with the Royal School of Church Music and, as such, is exposed to numerous opportunities of training and massed choral performances, including the Christmas Songs of Praise with Richard Cock.

St Mary’s is looking for new members of all ages to join the choir. Anyone with an interest in music is welcome to join. The choir meets for rehearsals on Friday evenings and sings in services on Sundays starting at 9:30am.
