) clubs Birdlife EC: Will be having a Saturday morning outing on 15 January at the Van Staden’s Gorge and Lady’s Slipper Mountain. Meet at 5.45am at Schultz’s in West Street, Newton Park. Target birds: Narina Trogon, Orange-breasted Sunbird, Cape Siskin and Protea Canary. They will be birding at the bottom of the Van Staden’s pass for forest birds, before driving up the back of the Lady’s Slipper Mountain to the microwave tower at the top where fynbos special birds occur. AACL Charity Shop: The Animal Anti-Cruelty League is in need of donations for their Charity Shop, The Bargain Box, in 9th Avenue Shopping Centre, Walmer. Good secondhand clothing, bric-a-brac, household goods, jewellery, books and linen would be greatly appreciated. Kick off the new year by donating the forgotten goods that came out during spring cleaning to a worthy cause. All proceeds go towards caring for animals in the northern areas. EP Bonsai Society: Will have their first monthly meeting of the year on 14 January at 2pm at the Sherwood Garden Centre, Walker Drive. Bring trees for a “hands on workshop”. Non-members very welcome for a donation of R10. There are groups for Beginners, Intermediates and Senior Growers. Free advice on problem trees will be available. Refreshments will be served. Bluewater Bay 15km Road Race: The N2 City Bluewater Bay 15km Fun Run will take place on 14 January at the N2 City Complex at 6.30am. Medals will be awarded to all participants who finish the race. Fedhealth XTERRA: South Africa’s premier off-road triathlon is returning to Nelson Mandela Bay from 10 to 12 February 2017 at Kings Beach. The only XTERRA SA event to feature an ocean swim, the Fedhealth XTERRA Nelson Mandela Bay takes the form of an Urban XTERRA and has a ‘City Feel’ to it. Port Elizabeth offers beautiful trails in the heart of the city. These trails are utilised for the XTERRA bike and run courses. Trail runners not yet ready for the full challenge of the XTERRA, can join in on the fun be taking part in the XTERRA Trail Run which features the 6km and 12km trail run routes of the Fedhealth XTERRA.
