2017-11-08 06:01

AFTER a successful 2016 edition, Divas of Dance is back. In the late ’80s and early ’90s, soul divas Sonia Evans and Lonnie Gordon and dance act Black Box all produced massive dance hits worldwide.

They will be heating up the city’s shores on Friday at the Boardwalk, taking patrons on a nostalgia-filled journey of booming beats, rhythmic guitars and memorable melodies.

Evans has achieved so much throughout her career spanning more than 20 years. She released 15 singles and five albums, while 11 of her singles reached top 30 in the UK, and her debut single You’ll Never Stop Me Loving You reached number one on the UK charts back in 1989 which was also her highest-selling single.

Three of her albums also reached the UK top 40. While her debut album, Everybody Knows, sold more than 500 000 copies in 1990.

Black Box’s first single, Ride On Time, was an international hit, making top 10 in many countries and number one in the UK, soon becoming one of the UK’s best dance-selling records of all time. Their other hits included Everybody Everybody and Fantasy.

Charvoni Woodson has been the lead vocalist for the group since 1995.

Gordon’s Happenin’ All Over Again reached number 4 in the UK, and she continued to have hits on the US dance charts until 1996.

Tickets are available at Computicket and all House & Home Stores from R250 to R495 (standing and reserved seated).
