IT seems that our cooking challenge is a lot more difficult than we thought it would be!The challenge of entering with a recipe that is unique to Nelson Mandela Bay has got cooks scratching their heads and having to think hard to find that recipe. That is exactly what we want for the Bay Chefs competition – and not dishes that you can get anywhere in SA. We want to honour the ingredients and tastes of our area, the things that give us a top tasting experience in South Africa. Our first entrant was Mary Mouton, who submitted the recipe for a unique venison casserole. PE Express, UD Express, the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality and the Alliance Francaise are challenging you to think again and enter that local recipe so that we can boast about a unique dish that represents our metro. We are searching for five finalists for phase one of our Bay Chefs competition. These finalists will cook off against each other at the end of July and the top three will then cook off against the three winners of the second stage on September 24. Each of our top three finalists will win R1 000 in shopping vouchers from the Greenacres Shopping Centre. You can enter online or download entry forms from www.magnetic.co.za. The entry form is also available on the PE Express facebook page. There is also an entry box at the information desk at the Greenacres Shopping Centre. All you have to do is write down the recipe and a few words about a special time that you cooked it.Entries for round one must be in by July 25 and the five best entrants will cook off against each other on July 29. The winner of round one will be announced on July 30. The Bay Chefs is supported by Coca-Cola, the Greenacres Shopping Centre and Magnetic Storm.
