Emerging artists can enter for New Now Next competition

2016-09-07 06:00

THE exciting New Now Next competition, presented by Galerie Noko in partnership with the Summerstrand Hotel, is an incredible platform aimed at discovering, uplifting and supporting emerging talented contemporary artists.

This initiative is open to all up and coming artists between the ages of 18-34 years residing in South Africa.

The previous winner of the New Now Next competition, Neo Matloga, has achieved remarkable success after he walked away as the coveted emerging artist winner in 2014.

Matloga’s talent has catapulted him into the international spotlight, with an impressive body of work being exhibited in Hamburg Germany, Brussels and New York. Some of his art pieces also form part of the South African Embassy’s art collection in Washington DC.

The winning artist for 2016 will win a cash prize of R25 000 cash and an artist residency at Galerie Noko, while the second and third place winners will each be awarded a not to be missed two-month artist residency and mentorship from the Galerie Noko.

Artists wishing to enter need to submit between three to six original artworks in any media or size which have not previously been part of an exhibition. The deadline for the competition is December 3, 2016.

The New Now Next exhibition will be open to the public from December 14, 2016 at Galerie Noko in 109-111 Russell Road, Richmond Hill, Port Elizabeth.
