Ensure that domestic workers are not soft targets

2016-01-13 06:00

THE police are asking employers of domestic workers to remind them to be vigilant as they are alone at the house most of the day and are often seen as soft targets by house burglars.

According to police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg employers continuously have to communicate with domestic workers to be alert when alone at home and keep the doors locked when they are inside the house.

She said the employer should always inform the domestic worker if someone was coming to do chores at the house and they should be instructed not to allow anyone entry to the house if it had not been cleared with the home owner.

“Ensure that the domestic worker has a way to contact the owner via WhatsApp or by SMS if she is in a difficult situation.

“Ensure that everyone in the house knows how to use the alarm system, and knows where the panic buttons are situated,” Janse van Rensburg said.
