THE search is on for the 15th Mrs Port Elizabeth. The first ever Mrs PE pageant was hosted in 2005 after it was founded by pageant director, Juanita Smit.“Through the years, numerous women have been empowered by these pageants; truly experiencing a life-altering journey, whether they win or not. During this journey, the women are celebrated and reminded of who they were destined to become; irrespective of whether they win or not,” said Smit.Smit has worked tirelessly to change the clichéd image of a ‘Barbie’ figured beauty queen, into that of a woman of integrity. “It is my belief that making a difference in the community is not dependent on the size of one’s thighs; rather on the size of her heart.” For this reason there are no prescribed height or weight specifications, and no swimwear is worn during any stage of the pageant. “From the beginning, hosting a pageant alone did not seem sensible. There had to be more to it than one brief appearance on stage, upon which to award a woman with such an esteemed title. “From there the journey was formulated to incorporate various elements that would inspire, empower and challenge every finalist,” Smit said. “Mrs Port Elizabeth is a confident, yet humble woman; one who is passionate about serving the community. “Essential characteristics include good communication skills and a spontaneous nature. It is important that she can use her initiative to create opportunities for underprivileged communities. The winner would have to be stylish, well-groomed and able to present herself with dignity and integrity.” Women aged 24 to 58 years, married or divorced, living in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro may enter. There are no height or weight specifications. For more info phone 064 845 4570.
