Frail Care Centres’ residents remain

THE Eastern Cape Frail Care Centre has confirmed that residents remain at the Life Esidimeni Lorraine Frail Care and Life Esidimeni Algoa Care Centres.

In December 2016, Judge Phakamisa Tshiki ordered the Eastern Cape Department of Social Development to extend its contract with Eastern Cape Frail Care Centres until a new service provider was appointed to render a similar service and a proper handover of patients could be carried out.

The extension is valid until at least February 23, 2017, when relevant parties are due back in court.

“As a defendant, we are adhering to the court’s outcome as stipulated by the judge’s findings. We believe both the Department and ourselves have joint responsibility and duty of care to ensure the safe and dignified transfer of these residents. This is not possible unless there is a meticulous, timeous, workable and humane plan in place for the transfer,” said Dr Nilesh Patel, Healthcare Services Operations Executive at Life Healthcare. “We are committed to providing excellent healthcare to these residents, and this extension ensures that we are able to do so,” said Patel.
