WITH two of the four races in the About IT Triathlon Summer Series already done, the Series overall standings are being led by German triathlete Johannes Moldan who spends the German winters training in Port Elizabeth. Moldan, a top 10 long distance triathlete in Europe, loves the Port Elizabeth summers and, for the past couple of years now, he has come to these shores for up to six months at a time to train before heading back in February to race in Europe and Asia. The popular sprint distance triathlon series has already attracted entries from around the country with the top positions being contested by Moldan, Keegan Cooke, Travis McGrath and Jarryd Cooke. In the ladies’ division 9 times series champion Liza Kingston is having tough opposition from Round 1 winner Alexia Loizou and Jade Hooke. “About IT has had a proud Eastern Cape presence since 2005 with our local branch opening in May 2005. During our tenure we have seen a passion for fitness and healthy living as a way of live in the region and decided to embrace it by getting involved with the Triathlon Summer Series from a sponsorship and participation point since 2011,” Said About IT owner Gerrit Olivier. “We actively take part in most of the events in the Bay and encourage our staff and clients to do the same and take-up a healthy lifestyle.”Round 3 of the 2016 Series takes place on Wednesday, December 21 with the finale being hosted in St Francis Bay on Monday, December 26. As a sprint distance triathlon, participants tackle a 750m swim, 20km cycle and a 5km run. The series is open to both individuals or teams (can be 2 people or 3 people). Online registration is still open for Round 4 on www.trisummerseries.co.za.Swimmers head to Marina for year finaleOpen water swimmers from around the Province will be heading to Jeffreys Bay on December 30 for the popular Marina Mile swim. This annual year-ending swim takes place at the scenic Marina Martinique with a Mile and Double Mile swim through the pristine sea water canals. Also on offer on the morning will be a 500m swim and a Kids Bank-Bank swim. The event is being managed by Zsports Events NPC this year on behalf of Swimming Plus with information and online registration available on www.zsports.co.za. Swimmers then get a short break before returning for the aQuellé Ocean Racing Series on Sunday, January 8 and the EC Swim Series the following Sunday.
