Get the whole family fit with fun in the sun at ocean racing

2016-10-12 06:00

THIS Sunday offers the chance to start a new chapter for your family with some serious fun in the sun at Hobie Beach on mostly alternate Sunday morning with the aQuellé Ocean Racing Series.

Kicking off at 9am, Africa’s largest family beach event offers a selection of 7 events to take part in.

After 11 seasons in the city, Season 12 looks set to be bigger than all the previous ones.

For the youngsters from nappies to 12 years old, there is the popular Kids’ 1km Beach Run/Walk and a popular lucky draw prize-giving, this year including a R500 cash lucky draw prize.

For others who enjoy the beach, there’s a 5km Beach Run or a 5km Beach Walk whilst for those that enjoy the sea the Series offers a 400m, 1km, 2km and 3km ocean swim.

A 400m swim is a new addition to the programme this year.

Pre-registration for Round 1 is recommended in order to avoid any late entry/manual entry penalties.

In order to get Series registered, all you have to do is register for your first race day and secure your Series number for the season.

Swim events cost R100, beach events R60 and the Kids’ run is R40.

All finishers in the kids’ run get medals whilst all age group winners and overall winners will receive medals.

The Series also offers finishers points which are accumulated to determine the overall Series winners at the end of the Season.

In this Series there will be two double points days, being the first and last race days of the season.

See for further information and to register ahead of Sunday’s first round.

A pre-season registration function will also be taking place at News Café this Friday evening between 5:30pm and 7:30pm.
