JESSICA Lentz (9), a grade 3 learner at Sunridge Primary School, recently held a drive to raise food for the animals at Save-A-Pet.

Jessica made a poster on July 5, appealing to the public to help her collect food for the animal rescue centre after they asked the public to aid them as their storeroom was nearly empty.

Her mother, Lindy, posted it on her Facebook page, to which many of her friends and family responded favourably.

Jessica only hoped to make a small contribution, but as the donations kept coming, she became determined to raise 100 tins of food.

In the end, she was able to donate 110 tins of dog and cat food and 16 bags of dog pellets. Save-A-Pet praised Jessica’s generous contribution to their cause on Facebook.

Lindy added that Jessica chose Save-A-Pet as they do not put down the animals and
allow the animals to live out their lives.

“She hopes that her story will inspire other children to do the same. She has always been a lover of animals and it just saddened her to see that they might not have any food.”

After dropping off the food, Jessica decided that she and her mother are going to volunteer from now on to walk the animals and help around at Save-A-Pet.
