Goodnight Market to offer new dining experience to locals

2016-02-17 06:00

THE Valley Market is hosting its very first night market tomorrow, February 18.

The Goodnight Market is intended to become a monthly event in Port Elizabeth.

“We are creating a completely different look and feel to the Valley Market and foresee it being the more sophisticated, intimate one of the two. We are not wanting to create a shopping experience, but rather a dining experience. We have thus chosen exhibitors who serve food that people can purchase for dinner, along with desserts and beverages,” said Elaine Watson, organiser.

According to Watson, The Goodnight Market will look completely different to the day market. It will be candle lit, have slower live music and a more intimate atmosphere and there will be waitrons to serve the guests coffee and drinks.

This market is completely community-minded in that 100% of the proceeds go to charity, directly to feeding and clothing the destitute and homeless. For more info about this go to

“A market like this is the first of its kind in PE. Night markets are popping up all over the country and the Goodnight is following suit,” Watson said.

Food available will range from Asian Dim Sum and Sushi to Tacos and Mediterranean. Diners may bring their own wine along (and plastic glasses). Popular local band, Lundale, will be there to play some chilled mellow tunes.

The night market takes place from 5pm to 10pm in Alabaster Road, Baakens Valley. Entry is R20 per person.
