Grey hosts U18 FIBA 3-on-3 basketball tournament

2017-01-11 06:01

GREY High school will be hosting the first ever official U18 FIBA 3-on-3 basketball tournament on January 15 to create awareness for the sport at the school.

Since 1996, Grey High has been rated as one of the top basketball schools in the Metro boasting players that have represented Eastern Province and South Africa.

In 1999, the first team was the South African school champions, with four players making the South African team.

The coaching staff comprises one staff member, Denga, and external coaching staff, Alfonzo Coollen, Eugene Botha and the newly appointed veteran, Kevin Hochung.

They are on a development mission this year to grow the numbers of boys who play basketball at the school.

Kevin has been involved in basketball since 1993 as a player and started coaching in 2013, becoming an official FIBA 3x3 event organiser in 2014 and has organised six events since.

“This is the first U18 FIBA 3x3 event in the metro and I urge all basketball players to register free on www.3x3planet.com which is an active FIBA website that tracks your progress and allocates points to registered players that compete in FIBA 3x3 events,” he said.

The Grey High School boy’s basketball camp starts on Friday, January 13 and ends with the 3x3 tournament on Sunday, January 15.

They are hoping for an influx of existing and new boys to attend the basketball camp and tournament, competing against each other to become the best ranked in the school, city, country and world on www.3x3planet.com.

Anyone interested in hosting a 3x3 basketball tournament can contact Kevin at 084 777 0912.
