IN an effort to dispel a fear of dentists in young children, oral hygienist Moefiedah Hippolyte of the Dora Nginza Dental Clinic, invited the Grade R learners from ACVV Haas Das Pre-Primary School in Algoa Park to visit the clinic for an educational outing.

Hippolyte visits Haas Das on a yearly basis during the school’s Teeth Week and has noticed a general fear of dentists in the learners.

The educational outing was aimed at dispelling this fear and allowing learners to feel comfortable when having to visit a dentist.

The children could view all the apparatus used and watch how teeth are cleaned and polished.

Children who wanted to could sit in the chair for a turn and were kept actively involved by interactive questions from Hippolyte and other learners.

The outing proved to be a great success as many of the learners left the dental clinic wanting to become a dentist one day.
