Hospice Shoppe up and running

2019-07-03 06:00

IT may be small in size, but the new Hospice Shoppe is definitely no ordinary run-of-the-mill dusty musty charity shop!

Set in the tranquil gardens at the Hospice headquarters in Taybank, the new shop is a “must visit” for everyone who loves beautiful – and affordable – things. With the accent on vintage style, the new shop opened its doors for the first time at the end of May and offers patrons a glimpse into the olde worlde charm of days gone by. From clothing to cases, books and bric-a-brac, there’s a little something to catch everyone’s eye.

The main Hospice Shop is situated in 4th Avenue, Newton Park, with a flourishing outlet in Du Plessis Street, Humansdorp, which raises funds for services in the Kouga region.

“The old adage that one man’s junk is another man’s treasure rings true at the various Hospice charity shops,” said St Francis Hospice’s Nicky von Hoffmann.

The primary aim of these second-hand outlets is to raise much-needed funds to enable Hospice to continue its service of providing palliative care and support to the terminally ill and their families in the region.

Von Hoffmann added, “Even if you are one of the fortunate few whose lives have not been touched in some way by cancer or other terminal illnesses, please think twice before you toss out items you no longer need or want. From clothing to collectibles, books to bric-a-brac, linen to lampshades - literally everything has a place in a Hospice Shop. And if we can’t use it or sell it to raise funds – we will find someone who can!”

  • St Francis Hospice will host a winter fete this Saturday, July 6, at its premises in Hospice Lane, Taybank, from 09:30 to 14:30. Books, clothing, bric-a-brac and refreshments will be on sale. It promises to be a fun day for the whole family, especially for the children, with a jumping castle, face painting, puppet shows at 10:30 and 12:00 as well as lawn games (sponsored by K&W Events), to keep them entertained. All proceeds go towards caring for the patients and their families.
