THE silenced voices of the emotionally abused needs to be broken by creating more awareness around this issue.
This was the sentiment which led Lihle Sokutu, Nandipha Tata and Thembakazi Mkontwana to establish #IamEnuf – an organisation which stands against emotional abuse.
These young women have taken it upon themselves to address the issues of emotional abuse in local communities and have regular talks at schools about these issues.
The organisation will be hosting a fundraising luncheon on April 28 with the theme “I am My Mother’s Daughter.”
There will be a range of motivational speakers and the event will also provide a platform where parents and the youth can have an open discussion with regard to the problems they face at home.
“We feel as though there aren’t many individuals who understand the severity of emotional abuse.
“We do not only aim at being the voice of those who are emotionally abused, but we also want to create awareness of this issue across all ages,” said Sokutu.
The NGO is hopeful that the fundraiser will not only assist in the growth of the organisation but will be a groundbreaking platform where the silent can regain their voices and a day of reconciliation for those affected by emotional abuse.
