Karaoke singers to battle it out

2018-01-24 06:00

KARAOKE fans can get ready for an epic battle of vocal champions from all local pubs.

This Karaoke Pub Challenge is being hosted by Jokim Music, a newly relocated entertainment company, headed by Kim Beeton.

“The competition is open to all local pubs who host regular karaoke evenings. Each pub can enter a team of five singers. There will be four rounds, each being held at a different pub that has a team entered,” explained Beeton.

“Port Elizabeth has a host of karaoke bars, operating with some very professional karaoke hosts at the controls. These KJs, as they are known, encourage and support many shy people, discover their voices and confidence, often opening up doors for new super stars.”

The competition will focus on the best karaoke singer in the region, which will be crowned the NMB Karaoke Star, and also the best team, which will hold the title of the Champion Karaoke Pub.

Singers will be required to perform four songs of their own selection, in each of the four rounds, and are encouraged to put on a good stage face and entertain the audience for a chance to secure a place in the finals. Sixteen teams are expected to participate.

The competition will run until the grand finale on March 17. Prizes include a demo CD, cash prizes up to R5 000 and various other gifts.
